Can keyless entry be installed on a car that doesn't have power locks? I am growing bored of using the key on my 1995 Miata like a damn CAVEMAN.

How expensive is getting it installed?

Why are you locking your Miata? I never lock it.

To keep honest people honest.

I've heard of folks not locking it.

Are you talking about adding power actuators then adding remote keyless entry? Otherwise, whats the RKE gonna control if the car has manual locks?

The only way to add RKE to your car is to convert it to power locks which anything is possible with the time and money but is it worth the effort? You'd have to add the wiring, the actuators and the rods to make it all work. Then you have to wire in the RKE box to control all that shit.

Its a miata, not a BMW. Use the manual locks like a commoner and keep on driving.

Make sure you get the ones with navigation, bluetooth, keyless entry, engine remote start, and free blinker fluid.

If I wasn't so damn big I'd rather have manual locks and manual windows. Instead I have manual locks and power windows which is perfect because my leg would hit the knob otherwise.

Okay. Thanks for the info! It looks like these folks have a kit:

I may just have the butler open the car for me instead.

I guess enough people have wanted power locks enough on these cars that someone felt the need to make a kit. Buy that and you'll be set

It's a convertible, do not keep items of any value in the vehicle. The most expensive thing in my Miata is a $6 tire gauge. Anything with value goes in the trunk.

I stopped locking it after talking with a few other owners about never locking it. Since the top is down a lot anyways, I don't worry.

This story makes me want to keep my doors locked:

I'll give you one reason to lock: Several years ago, a friend of mine parked his Lebaron in downtown Memphis. Because he was worried about his top, he never locked his car. When he came back several hours later, he found a bum asleep in his passenger seat. Worse yet, the guy had peed himself in his sleep. My friend called the cops, and the bum told the cops he had been going through the parking lot testing door handles for unlocked cars. He fell asleep in the first one he found. Hey, I'm not worried about some bum sleeping in any car I own. There's a Ford e-250 with two sleeping bags in my driveway with no locked doors. Just don't trash the car. Although if I catch you there you may have to help me wash it.

PO had a kit on my car (96 Miata, non M) but it failed like all Chinese garbage tends to. Now I have manual locks and electric gremlins from that hack job.

For your consideration, M Edition NA8s had power locks.

My policy here in Florida is if I think it's going to rain, top goes up and doors get locked. If the weather is sunny top stays down and glove box and console get locked.
